Contributors' Instructions  Home Page  Members  Index to All Tune Names  Index to Hymnals

This page is intended for those invited to be contributors to the Lutheran Hymn-Tune Wiki.  It gives instructions on adding brief personal information to the Members page, making new tunes pages and adding music information to those pages.

First Step:

The first step after informing the administrator, signing up with pbwiki and getting the password, is to use the Firefox browser.  If you do not have it, then download (http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/) and install it onto your hard drive.  If you have Windows or the Mac OS 10.4 or higher, also download and install Google Toolbar (http://www.google.com/tools/firefox/toolbar/FT3/intl/en/index.html).  After you get to this site and enter your email and password, find the page you want to edit, then choose the "Point and Click Mode" for an easier editing mode.  The link for this is in the upper-right part of the page.

Members Pages:

The first thing to do, after getting the invitation and the password from the Administrator, is to fill in brief personal information on the Members page.  Click on the previous link and click on its Edit Page button near the top.  Then you are in the Edit mode.  Find the next empty row in the table, probably just below the last person's entry.  Type in your personal information in a manner similar to previous entries.  Suggestions: include name, church position or other employment, education, town and state.  When finished, click on the Save button at the bottom-left.  Then click on the link to come back to this page (or use the Back button on your browser.  Of course, you may go to the Home page or another page, as you wish.

To add musical pieces to the various tunes pages:

Follow the method of the entries already made.  Try to use only one table row for any one piece.  If the exact same piece appears in more than one publication, as is the case in many early works, just add the new album and/or publisher's information in the existing row, rather than make a new row.  You can keep the publishings separate by using numbers: 1)  2)  3).  To add new rows to the table, just put the cursor in the last row, last column, then press the Tab key.

To add a new tunes page:

Below find helpful information on how to set up pages, but a few pages have already been started and are accessible from the the Index to All Tune Names.  However, the Administrator prefers that you use the format that has already been used (see below).  If you create a new page, be sure to edit the Index to Hymn Tunes to include a link to the new page.

To create a new hymn-tune page, follow these steps:

1)  Log in with the password obtained from the administrator

2)  Click on the New Page button and name the page the tune name (ex: Veni Emmanuel)

3)  Click on Template, then click OK

4)  The new page will appear in the Edit mode

5)  Add the hymn-tune name and alternate names

6)  Add the numbers that the tune appears in the various hymnals

7)  Add the first couple phrases of the meody

8)  Add data for each music piece based on that tune

9) When finished with the data, click Save
