Searching on this Wiki:
If you know the tune name, you can go to the Index to All Tune -Pages page to find the link for that tune's wiki page. That index only lists tunes that have pages in this wiki. You may also first find the hymnal through the Index to Hymnals. The Index to Hymnals lists each hymnal used in this Wiki followed by links to the specific hymn number index and the hymnal's tune name index. These two indeces list all the hymn numbers and tune names in the specific Lutheran hymnal. The links in all these hymnal-specific indeces also go to wiki pages listing music based on the chosen hymn tune. Note that only Lutheran hymnals since 1940 are indexed because of what would otherwise be an enormous project. You may also search for a page by clicking on the link "Show All Pages" in the Wiki Information column at the bottom of each page.
You may also search with the Search box on this Wiki at the upper-right area of the page. You may search this way by hymn-tune name, tune's melodic sequence, hymn number, title of music, composer/arranger, publisher, album or medium. When searching this way by hymn number, use the letter codes above for the specific hymnal followed by the number (ex: LH 502). When searching by the tune's melodic sequence, use capital letters for the notes and put one space in between the notes. Sharp is expressed by the number sign (#) and flat by the lower-case b. Ex: Eb G Bb Bb Bb Bb C Bb; another ex: D A F# A G F# D E.
You may also search by the opening sequence of pitches. See the Index to First Pitches for instructions and the pitch tables.
Some tunes pages have comments, providing more information than what is included in the tables. There is a Commens button near the top of each tunes page. If there is a numder in parentheses on that button, then you should click the button to read the comments. If there are two rhythmic versions of the tune, there will be two separate pages and an attempt will be made to separate the related music. A link will be provided on the pages of each version so than the reader may quickly move from one version to the other.
If you find a music work that you wish to obtain or learn more about, you may contact the publisher. A list of publishers is found on this page: Publishers. The Publishers link is also found at the top of each tunes page.
